Monday Meme 17: Hungry for Restaurant Guide Meme
So yeah, I’m a bit late on this week’s Monday meme. Here is J’s tag on this restaurant guide meme, and it’s great because Hong Kong is a gastronmist’s paradise. In Hong Kong you’ll find many excellent restaurants representing all the major cuisines, and some you likely haven’t even heard of (Shanghai-nese, Taiwanese, Cantonese, Hakka, etc.). I live on the Hong Kong Island side, so all the restaurants on this guide are on the island. If you’re ever in Hong Kong and need to find a good restaurant, here’s a guide for a few places to start off:
The rules:
1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you. Include the state and country you’re in.
Nicole (Sydney, Australia)
Velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
LB (San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy)
Selba (Jakarta, Indonesia)
Olivia (London, England)
ML (Utah, USA)
J (California, USA)
CuriosityKiller (Hong Kong, SAR)
2. List out your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location.
CK recommends #1.
$$Â All major credit cards accepted.
It’s really the ambience that you’re going for — the view, the relaxed atmosphere, and the service. The food is alright for the price with a fairly extensive menu featuring elegant Asian favourites, classic Western dishes, fresh seafood items at oyster bar, and open-flame charcoal barbecue items.  The taste is not mind-blowing, but the location and service definitely makes it one of a kind.
CK recommends #2.Â
Brunch at Ritz Carlton  $$$ All major credit cards accepted.
For something high-end and western — I would highly recommend the surprisingly affordable (US$65 per person) and excellent champagne brunch at the Ritz Carlton’s Chater Lounge for the weekends. The all you can eat a la carte and appetizer buffet provides the finest of finest European and Asian cuisines. I’ve visited several high end hotel buffets, and yes – Ritz Carlton is the best, even though it’s the most expensive. The menu and selections cannot be rivaled.Â
CK recommends #3. The Hui Chinese restaurant $$ — 3rd floor, Entertainment Building, Lan Kwai Fong, Central. Phone: 2117-2117
The best dimsum with classy ambience and good service… it’s also one of the finest dimsum restaurant in Hong Kong. I can’t find any internet info on it except the Chinese one, so I added the phone number and English address for easier access — reservation is recommended. Dim sum is always consistently reliable with top quality and flavors.Â
CK recommends #4.  Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long BaoÂ ç¿¡ç¿ æ‹‰éºµå°ç± 包 $$ Cash only.

My all time favorite pastry with shredded turnip.Â

Delicious minced pork filling with bread — fill it yourself and eat it like a sandwich.
Scallion fried bread
Xiao Lon Bao å° ç± åŒ… - Shanghai-nese dumpling
Shanghai-nese Chinese food is a favorite Chinese cuisine anywhere. And this restaurant delivers — it’s not an overly full scale restaurant and provides the best dumplings and chinese bread rolls. This chain restaurant has been a huge hit in Hong Kong. I’ve visited both shops in Central and Causeway Bay.  At very reasonable prices, the taste is so incredibly good that their cranky waiters can’t rain on your parade. Just prepare yourself for a line-up or get there early. At Crystal Jade, you can watch pastry chefs making your xiao long bao (the bread) or la mian (hand-stretched noodles) through glass windows for an uninterrupted view of the kitchen. Just don’t linger too long and get in the way of busy traffic.
CK recommends #5. Yun Kee restaurant éžè¨˜é…’家 $
Cards accepted: Visa, Amex, Discover, Master
Roasted goose leg
This is the Cantonese restaurant and it is as quick and flavorful as it gets. They’re one of those places that you see roasted goose and bbq pork hanging at the window display. It might be horrific to some westerners, but it’s most appetizing for people in the know. Matching delicious goose with sweet plum sauce, with the very hard to-come-by authentic lai fun (soup noodle made of rice flour and is opague in colour – the taste is firm and very satisfying).
CK’s HONORABLE MENTION. Not to forget to drop by holes in the wall that line the streets of Soho and Causeway Bay — some are just easy on the wallet noodles and rice dishes, and few have the specially served fresh hot rice in a pot over hot stove in Causeway Bay. I don’t even know the name in Chinese.
3. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged.
Chrissy — of course.  Give me a few places in Manitoulin and Toronto. We can go restaurant hopping.
Dina — interested to know what you think are good dining places in North York and downtown Toronto. We’ll meet up for a luncheon!
Wreckless – Do tell - what’s good around ya?
waz - what’s the best restaurants in New Zealand?  Just name them my friend!
Shelli - What’s your local cuisine like?
Mitchell — please tell me about the Montreal restaurant scene.Â
Dani Simon — a fellow cosmo girl — this is a good time for you to start your own blog! Tell me about Viennese restaurants!!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it!!
I don’t know if anyone else is interested in amazing us with your local restaurants? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll come check you out!

These are some of the places I have been with my niece for dinner or with some of her friends and Marco for just a beer and a quick simple meal.
Le Mas Des Oliviers: 1216 Bishop St. (514) 861-6733. A formal restaurant, very elegant and expensive with a superb wine list.
L’Express: 3927 St. Denis St. (514) 845-5333. A popular Mtl. bistro on ultra cool St. Denis good loud atmosphere good for a beer and a light meal before or after going out for the evening.
Byblos: 1499 Laurier Ave. E. (514) 523-9396. A quiet ethnic (Iranian) restaurant. Very good homemade food.
Joe Beef: 2491 Notre Dame St. W. (514) 935-6504. A family restaurant with huge portions.
Le Toque Restaurant: 900 Jean-Paul Riopelle (514) 499-2084. A classic French Restaurant. This is where I would take you if you ever came to Mtl. A brilliant menu, just a brilliant as the street it is located on named for the famous Quebecois painter.
I thought one could only be tagged from one’s blog not from a private email.

Done, done and done, Dear!
I had to do Manitoulin Island/Toronto/Montreal though…because I live on Manitoulin, was born in Toronto and grew up in Montreal. I hope you enjoy my reviews and hopefully we can hit some of those places this summer when you visit!

Mitchell — I had to tag you, I know your taste in restaurants, and really looking forward to seeing the finest of Montreal. You have a keen eye for fine restaurants. I loved George! I still remember that restaurant.
Waz — thanks for playing, it’s no problem. I know what’s it’s like to be a student, but I’ll be interested to see vegetarian restaurants in New Zealand~!
Chrissy — I was planning to do Hong Kong, Toronto, and NYC! LOL That’s so funny. Thanks for playing! Woohoo!

[...] The trouble is, I move around the country a LOT. So my list of favorite restaurants is going to be very spread out. VERY spread out.
Mackenzie River Pizza, Missoula, MT.
Organic pizza joint with a gourmet menu, an awesome local beer selection, and the world’s greatest Caribbean Jerk wings. After I travelled away from Missoula, every time I came back to visit Chad, he knew exactly where I wanted to eat first. I’m not gonna say I would kill for these wings, but I have punched Chad in his junk for trying to snatch the last one. [...]

[...] I’ve been tagged by Dmarks, so I’m supposed to describe my five favorite restaurants.
Probably our favorite local Mexican place is Campo Verde in Arlington. It is filled with Christmas lights and has a miniature train up near the ceiling. Like most Mexican places, they serve chips and salsa, but they also serve queso and the chips have chili powder on them. I used to really not like beans, but they have a black bean soup with cilantro that I tried to copy. Someday when I have money I’m going to try the rattlesnake fajitas.
[...] I like just about any seafood place in Maine. Maine gets a bit weird with the lobsters. Every place seems to sell lobsters. In the summer you can get lobster rolls at McDonald’s, but those probably aren’t the best. Everything seemed to be “and lobsters” or “and seafood” in combination with other things that did not make sense. Like there was some tire place “and lobsters.” People sell lobsters from pickup trucks in parks and on the side of the road.
There was someplace in Bar Harbor where we got a good lobster dinner for less than fifteen dollars. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant, just that it was a short walk from most of the tourist stuff we were doing. I think it’s called a shoreman’s dinner if you have steamed lobster, steamed clams, corn on the cob, red potatoes, and blueberry pie. If you eat the same meal on the beach, it is called a clam bake. [...]
My favorite barbecue place is K.C. Masterpiece in Kansas City. My husband and most people who really like barbecue places will disagree and vote for someplace where someone yells at you and then serves you nothing but meat and bread on some brown paper. [...]

[...] #1 Al Fresco Italian Restaurant… Their food is amazing and there are lots of dish that are not in a marinara or alfredo sauce. They make everything to order so dishes can be adapted to whatever your heart desires.
#2: The Monastery is a czech restaurant that is to die for. The food is a little pricey but well worth it. They make everything from scratch just the way you’d get it in the old world.
#3: Nawab Indian Restaurant. OMG their lunch buffet is simply divine. I don’t like going for dinner because I get to only eat one thing.
#4: Das Waldcafe. This is the German Restaurant I used to work in and their food is really good. Its the Bavarian/southern German cuisine but still really really good.
#5: Thai Erwan - while I don’t get to eat there as often as I’d like to (mainly because Grumpy is not big on Thai food) they still offer amazing veggie dishes. I just saw there is a Thai place opening near my office and I am planning on testing them throughly for lunch every day well maybe every other day. [...]

[..] the whopping town of Batesville Arkansas, poplulation 9,445–Salute!
1. Kelly Wyatts Restaurant - This is the place we go to for breakfast on the weekend because of their breakfast buffet. They have just about any breakfast item you can think of on the buffet. It includes a chlled fruit and vegetable bar and orange juice. Plus if you don’t want the scrambled eggs on the buffet they will fry, poach or boil eggs for you at no additional charge. Very easy on the pocketbook at $4.25 and best of all Hubby always gets full.
2. Outpost Fish & Seafood Co. - They have the best fried catfish in town. Every thing is homemade down to the dinner rolls that they serve. The best thing is that it’s five miles from my house. The foods good but Hubby always leaves hungry.
3. The Triangle Cafe - A small old time country diner but one of the most popular places in this town to eat at. They’re always packed to the seams at lunch because of their lunch special’s that has so much food you’re miserable. On Friday and Saturday night they have Prime Rib for $12.95. Hubby always leaves stuffed. I think they have the best Cheeseburger’s in town.
4. Cowboy’s Barbecue - My favorite place in the whole town because I love barbecue. I’m partial to their ribs with homemade sides and homemade pie for desert.
5. Colton’s Steakhouse- This is where Hubby and I go when we are feeling the need for a splurge and the “fanciest” place in town. How ironic that the fanciest place has you throw your peanut shells on the floor. They’re steaks are delicious and always cooked to perfection and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. [...]
